Why SquareSpace Is Our Favorite Platform - And Why It Should Be Yours Too
I've been around the block a few times in terms of platforms, hosting services, and domain providers. As a business owner of two years, I ultimately chose Squarespace for myself and my clients.
Squarespace is by far, the easiest, cleanest, and most user-friendly web platform for both myself and my clients. Choosing it was the best decision I ever could have made for my business. Here's why...
01. EASY TO USE CMS
I’ve worked with websites on WIX, Weebly, Wordpress, GoDaddy, etc. and Squarespace has the most user friendly content management system out there, by far! The back end is organized and structured making it easy to add, remove, and edit content on your website. Click, drag, and drop to add and structure your site without complications - no coding required (however, they do have options for coding if you're more advanced, which is one of my favorite features!). This makes it extremely easy to transfer websites to my clients and allows me to ensure they won’t need to hire a website designer each time they want to add new content to their website.
Having a secure site is extremely important! Your visitors are safe to visit and purchase from you and your content is safe from outside threats. Unfortunately, WordPress widgets and plug-ins are hosted by different parties which means that this loophole allows an opportunity for hackers to gain unapproved access to your site. Thankfully, Squarespace has full control over their applications and integrations, which means there's no loophole for uninvited hackers to enter through. Your content is not only secure, but it's your own. Squarespace may be a self-hosted platform, but it only owns the templates and features used on their platform, everything and anything you add, is completely your own.
Straight from Squarespace's mouth: “When you upload content to Squarespace, you still own it. You do, however, give us permission to use it in ways necessary to provide, improve, promote and protect our services. For example, when you upload a photo, you give us the right to save it and display it on your site at your direction.”
03. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE & SUPPORT
No matter how much of an expert you are, encountering technical issues is inevitable. With Squarespace you'll have peace of mind knowing that if something doesn’t feel right, customer support is there to help. Their contact page is broken down into six sections to ensure you're reaching out to the appropriate support channel on your first try. Plus, they respond quickly and with in-depth answers that help you fix any issues with ease. Squarespace also offers articles, videos, live chats, and community forums for extra help. Any other platform I’ve used did not offer support that comes close to what Squarespace offers, and that's why they get an A+ in my book!
04. AFFORDABLE PRICING
You get what you pay for. Yes there are platforms that cost less than Squarespace, but everything you receive from Squarespace justifies their $16-46 monthly pricing. With Wordpress comes additional plug-ins, with WIX comes additional apps, but with Squarespace you’ll never have to pay for additional features outside of your subscription. Not to mention, I am a Square Circle member so my clients get 20% off their packages from the start! Who doesn’t love a good discount?

05. FEATURES & INTEGRATIONS
Not only are the Squarespace features included in your subscription, but you also have the ability to easily integrate the other platforms you use for your business. A few of my favorite integrations are email, payment processing, order and inventory management, scheduling systems, and social media (although the list could go on). Squarespace allows you to easily integrate and manage these things all in one place without having to maintain several different platforms separately. #BusinessGoals
Some of their awesome integrations include: G Suite, GoogleFonts, Google Ads and Analytics, social media accounts, PayPal, Acuity Scheduler, OpenTable, SoundCloud, Disgus, ShipStation, and so much more!
06. MOBILE FRIENDLY
With 80% of internet users using their mobile devices, and 69% of them spending majority of their media time on smartphones, it is paramount to have your website be mobile responsive. As you build your website, Squarespace is automatically optimizing it for mobile and tablet view. Your site will configure its design to fit better on smaller screens, and you can even view and test how it will look on different devices as you design and develop your website. Templates on other platforms claim they support mobile; however, the design is usually clunky and misaligned as items and functions will not automatically respond like they would with Squarespace.
07. AESTHETICS & MODERN DESIGN
From a design perspective, Squarespace wins every time! It has a clean, beautiful, modern, and easy to navigate design that trumps all other platforms I’ve used. When I visit a website, I can almost instantly tell whether it is a Squarespace, WIX, or Wordpress website simply by the aesthetics. With over 40 modern templates to choose from, all of which being customizable, no website looks the same. The templates can be molded to fit your brands voice and mission without losing it’s modern look.
When I was designing ecommerce websites on WordPress or WIX, I would experience issues on a regular basis. Not being notifying when there was new orders, showing the wrong amount of items in the cart, items randomly missing from the shop, and no inventory management. These issues take time and energy to fix and are extremely frustrating for both the designer, the website owner, and the customers. Squarespace’s ecommerce platform is amazing, they make it easy to add and manage products in your store. You have the option to stock physical, digital and service products along with the option to integrate with third-party platforms. For product-based businesses, this is how you make a living, so having a solid platform that is both easy to use and easy on the eye is crucial to your businesses success.
Blogging is a huge part of having an online presence for your business, and if it comes with baggage or complicated strategies, chances are you won’t keep up with it. Although WordPress is known primarily for their blogging, unfortunately I did not enjoy the blogging process with them (ugh, don’t even get me started on Wix). WordPress' back end blog editing felt daunting and you can't see what it looks like as you edit (as a designer, I’m SUPER visual). Squarespace offers a simple and easy to use blogging platform that allows you to save drafts, mark posts for review, select different authors, and schedule out content ahead of time. Plus, the interface looks exactly the same as when you're editing your website, which makes it easy to brand your blog posts and add images/videos/integrations!
10. SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION
If you don’t know what SEO is, it stands for Search Engine Optimization. Essentially, it’s the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine. In order to do so, there is a collection of practices you can implement to improve your visibility and increase your search engine ranking. Instead of downloading a plug-in to assist you, like most platforms, Squarespace comes fully equipped with all the tools you need to improve your SEO: site title, search engine descriptions, alt text, page descriptions, blogging, and keywords.
Squarespace did not ask me to promote them nor do I get any compensation for writing this.
I genuinely just love this platform and hope you do too!
